I have the honour to acknowledge

the receipt of your letter No 28457

98, of the 29th December last, and to thank the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies for the increment of house-allowance which he has been pleased to grant me.

However,

I am disappointed to learn that the Officer Administering the Government reported that there is, in his opinion, no sufficient reason for granting any increase of salary, and I trust that his report is not to be accepted as final.

The discrepancy between my salary and that of officers in similar positions

Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

London, S. W.
